Abstract:
Arrived from Italy to the Soviet Union on May 28, 1928, M. Gorky almost immediately got involved in public and editorial work. The writer began cooperation with “Krestyanskaya Gazeta,” at the same time he began to implement his publishing project — the magazine “Our Achievements,” the purpose of which was to highlight the results of the work of the worker-peasant government in all sectors of the national economy. It was a long-standing idea of the writer, born back in 1921. The publication “Our Journal” had practically the same goals as “Our Achievements.” However, his exit was stopped by a forced departure abroad in October 1921. Upon returning to the Union of Soviets, Gorky decided to revive the magazine, but under a different name. According to him, “Our Achievements” became a matter of “his soul,” which he wrote about in the articles “Our Achievements” and “About the magazine ‘Our Achievements’” even before the first issue appeared. A wide range of scientists and cultural figures, as well as the best essay writers, were attracted to cooperation. It published both novice and well-known writers. The magazine “Our Achievements” was published between January 1929 and May 1937. A year after the release of the first issue, “Our Achievements” had an addition — a magazine of photographic documents “USSR at a Construction Site.” In search of a new manner of presenting material, Gorky experimented in the field of genre. For the magazine “Our Achievements” he developed a new genre of documentary essay, and for “USSR in Construction” — the genre of “dynamic photo essay.”
