Abstract:
This chapter is dedicated to reflections on the feasibility and appropriateness of creating a linguistic commentary for set phrases found in the literary works of M.A. Sholokhov. It argues that a commentary on individual proverbs and sayings is most rational. This facilitates the identification of the sensemaking function of set phrases within the structure of the text. It is most convenient to conduct such a commentary in preparation for a digital version of a scholarly edition, where one can transition from explanation to interpretation.
Keywords: M.A. Sholokhov, set phrases, paroemia, proverb, saying, paroemiological space, artistic text, sensemaking.
